At many car rental places across Nicaragua you can also request to be privately transported from destination to destination in a car of your choice, just like having your own chauffeur. This may be to some travellers' wishes assome of the taxi's in Nicaragua don't always offer the most comfortable rides.

Taxi's in Nicaragua are easy to get, and can be flagged down. The taxis are usually older model cars, and aren't in as a good condition as you may find vehicles in Europe and the United States are. However taxi drivers do have extensive knowledge of the areas and will usually be more than helpful in helping you get to your destination.

Taxi drivers will recognize whether you are a foreigner or not, so be aware that taxi drivers may try to over charge you and may claim that they don't have any change, trying to force you to pay with a higher amount of money.

Try not to travel in a taxi on your own as some taxi drivers can be dangerous, although the number of these is very small, unfortunately a minority still exist. When traveling to another destination, whether it be to a restaurant, local bar, beach or to your next hotel, make sure that you instruct the cab not to pick up any other passengers on the way.

Also be sure to make sure that the cab you take is a marked car with a taxi registration on it just incase there is a problem, try to avoid using rogue taxis that operate in the area.
